Oblivion *Review*

Hello folks! Long time no see!

Sorry about not posting for so long, we’ve been a little caught up settling into our new jobs. But that’s enough excuses, down to business! I was the only one in our family who didn’t get to see Oblivion in the cinema, so needless to say I was excited to watch it when we got it on Blu-ray.

Now from what I had heard it was a movie to confuse you, like the matrix, but I can’t say it was really that complicated. A little outlandish maybe, but not confusing. There were some good plot twists towards the end but it was a little slow going at the start. I understand that it was needed to set up the movie, but I did find myself wanting to have a look at my phone.

There weren’t any overly memorable scenes from the film except for the last scene with Morgan Freeman. I liked the film, but it’s not one of Tom Cruise’s’ best pieces.

As an introduction to watching Blu-ray instead of DVDs it was a gentle way into it, which was quite nice, and I would watch it again, although maybe not for a little while.

That’s all for now. P.S Happy Sherlock day!

Sunshine, darker than you’d think!

S’up amigos!

So the other day my sister decided to educate me on one of my new favourite actors, Cillian Murphy. We are watching the new TV series he’s in (Peaky Blinders) so she wanted to show me some of his films. And she chose Sunshine (2007).

The basic plot is; It’s set 50 years in the future and the sun is dying. So, physicist Capa (Cillian) has developed a bomb which will be detonated inside the sun, effectively creating a star within a star. He and a crew of 7 astronauts and scientists then fly a spaceship named ‘Icarus 2’  to the sun to deploy the potentially Earth saving payload. Of course things don’t go to plan as they realise that Icarus 1, their predecessor that went missing 7 years previously is still in orbit around the sun without delivering their payload. The crew seemingly all went mad and are now dead, all bar the psychotic captain Pinbacker (Mark Strong), who manages to board the Icarus 2 bent on stopping the mission. By this point 4 of the crew have now died, including the captain and first mate. Only four are left; Capa, Cassie (Rose Byrne), Mace (Chris Evans) and Corazon (Michelle Yeoh). With their oxygen supply for the journey back destroyed, and the ship levels dwindling, this is when it gets scary.

Basically I spent most of this film either confused or behind a pillow, did I mention that Marc Strongs character was horribly burned and disfigured from over exposure to the sun? Also he is intent on killing the entire human race. Before the end of the film he manages to kill Mace and Corazon, and very nearly kills Capa and Cassie before the payload is deployed. Notably they all die at the end of the film, but not before Capa successfully detonates the bomb, restarting the star and saving the day.

Overall, it wasn’t a bad film. The science was a little sketchy, but accurate enough for the story line. I would recommend it  to science fiction fans, although I wouldn’t watch it on your own. Bearing in mind I’m a bit of a wimp! It might be a while before I watch it again.

If you watch it let us know what you thought in the comments, and I’ll see you soon!

Fast and Furious 6 Review

Hi Y’all

It has been a busy few weeks for us here so we haven’t been able to post as much as we’d like to. So over the next few days we’re gonna be making up for it, starting with this, our review of Fast and Furious 6! (which came in the post yesterday).

Now as a massive super car fan the ‘Fast’ films are right up my street, my sister however doesn’t quite agree. Me and my Dad have been attempting to get her into F1 for some time now and i think we’re just about starting to get through, with a little help from films such as these 😉

My poor delusioned sister, I will never like F1. And in my opinion, the best thing about these films is the music. The music is kick ass.

Well then apparently that is my sister’s review of the film . . . the music is ‘kick-ass’.

The explosions are pretty cool too. I like when stuff blows up. Hence why I like Death Race. Lots of explosions and people dying in imaginative ways :). He he he . . . .

Wow a very in depth analysis there . . . music and explosions. Fast and Furious 6 is so much more then that. Beautiful cars, amazing chase sequences, brilliant actors, and yes explosions . . . oh and a TANK!!!

You know, one of my friends boyfriend did the paint work on one of the cars in the film. And Vin Diesel does have a lovely deep voice.  And why are we listening to Doctor Who music while we write this? Not that I mind . . .

Wow fascinating bit of trivia there, would be better if you knew which car. But i do have to agree Vin Diesels voice is something to behold. Anyway what is your opinion of the film sister dearest? (and do you need a reason to listen to Doctor Who music?!? It’s awesome!)

It’s one of the show cars in the gathering bit. From the hour or so that I have seen of the film (Thanks for waiting for us to get back before starting -_-) it’s action packed and fast moving. The cars are pretty sweet and the music rocks. So all in all, I’d watch it again. Tokyo Drift is still my favorite of this series though. The music is epic in that one, and drifting is awesome.

Firstly if we had waited for you to get back you wouldn’t have been able to watch CSI:NY. Secondly is that the sound of you starting to like cars?? (‘sweet’???). Anyway I really enjoyed this film, one of the best in the series with plenty to build on in Fast 7. Like I said before beautiful looking and sounding cars, some amazing sequences through the middle of London and the runway scene was simply epic. Although I believe someone worked out that the runway would need to be about 34 miles long for that sequence to take place!! Oh and a British bad guy! Like so many films at the moment, i don’t know what it is with casting us brits as the baddies but we do do a fantastic job of it 😉

Yeah, I’m gunna have to watch the whole film aren’t I? *Sigh* I’ll just power through.

We could have a ‘Fast’ marathon!!!!!!!!!

Although would we watch them in the order they were released or chronologically? Because Tokyo Drift technically comes after Fast 6 chronologically.

Oh sweet lord no . . . . *Backs away* Bye everyone!! HD *Runs out of room*

Well thats one way of getting her to leave the room! But a ‘Fast’ marathon sounds pretty good to me, wonder if my Dad will watch them with me . . . . . . . .

Just a quick word to say sorry we’ve not been posting much lately, but it’s been a busy few weeks with CD graduating from university and me going through interviews. Hopefully we’ll be on here a lot more, blogging about all our nerdy goings on.

I’ll start by putting up a post tomorrow about Fast and Furious 6 which we just got today, this should be a fun review from someone who’s not keen on cars 🙂

Sherlock Series 3 *scream*

Hello my little nerdlings!

Guess what?

We’ve been given a teaser trailer for Sherlock series 3. WOOP!

It was shown this Friday, after the re-run of the last episode of series 2. Needless to say me and Chrissi were glued to the telly. It wasn’t much but it has certainly whetted our  appetite.

Here’s the trailer, courtesy of our faithful friend YouTube;

Thanks BBC.

You know, even after two years, we still can’t figure out how he did it.

Comic-Con 2013; TV show highlights!

Hi  there thunder-buddies!!

So, Comic-Con is over for another year, and we still didn’t go :(.  But, we do have some highlights for you! Now CD is taking care of the movie side of it, so I’ll take you through all of the TV Show-based news that caught our eye. There’s only a few, but they are all pretty awesome, so I think you’ll like this.

Once Upon a Time

This relatively new show has done a very good job of capturing our attention over the first two series. And at Comic Con this year we got some inside info on which of our beloved childhood characters will be joining the fray. The most exciting revel is that Ariel from Little Mermaid will be joining the towns people of Storybrooke. Although the character hasen’t been cast yet we’re sure they’ll pick someone good. My personal suggestion is Emmy Rossum. She has a voice that lives up to the tales of mermaids being sirens of the sea.

We also found out that Peter Pan will be joining the cast, however he’s not how we remember him from the tales, with co-creator Eddy Katsis saying he will ‘frighten some people’. I think we are all agreed that we look forward to see these new additions to the cast, and hopefully some more!

The Big Bang Theory

Although there were no big plot revels for series seven of Big Bang, the panel had a lot of fun at Comic Con this year. Bernadette (AKA Melissa Rauch) moderated the panel which was introduced by none other than Professor Steven Hawking. He made several references to the show during his speech including reciting the theme song! Halfway through the panel a member of the audience in Star Wars Costume joined the stage who was reviled to be Johnny Galecki (AKA Leonard) much to the audiences joy.

The Vampire Diaries & The Originals

Many of the cast for Vampire Diaries and the Originals turned up to Comic Con this year, delighting the fans. A trailer for the new series of Vampire Diaries was shown which had a detailed recap of the first four series, then showed a reviled baddie Silas addressing the townsfolk of Mystic Falls. Me thinks this spells trouble for all super naturals involved!

Footage was also released for the new spin-off show the Originals. It has also been reviled that the first episode will show the story of Klaus going back to New Orleans from the Vampire Diaries again, but his time from Elijah’s’ point of view. Needless to say as a Joseph Morgan fan I am very excited for this new show to start!

Agents of SHIELD

This went down very well this year, and many people in the Marvel-sphere are buzzing for this new show to come out. In a surprising twist Joss Whedon unveiled not a clip for the new series, but the whole pilot episode! It went down a storm and confirmed the return of Clark Gregg’s Character Agent Phil Coluson. It was also reviled that Agent Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) will appear in several episodes.

Now for our beloved English TV Shows;

Doctor Who

There is a ridiculous amount of speculation surround the 50th anniversary of this British Institution of a show. All I’m going to divulge is that Matt Smith (11th Doctor), Jenna Coleman (Clara Oswald), David Tennant (10th Doctor) and Billie Piper (Rose Tyler) will be in it. There are rumors of Queen Elisabeth I being in it, and the Darleks. Steven Moffat has also said that he has ‘lied his arse off’ about who is and isn’t going to be in the episode. So hope for the return of Captain Jack Harkness yet!! That is all I’m going to say on the matter, because it gets very complicated and confusing the more you read about it.

This is all you need for Sherlock:

I love that man 🙂

So, enjoy all the offerings and I’ll be back tomorrow with a review of The Worlds End!

Fandoms . . .

Now, as I’m sure you’ve realised we’re quite into all sort of fandoms; Doctor Who, Sherlock, LotR, Avengers/Marvel films, The Hobbit, Pirates of the Caribbean, Vampire Diaries, Merlin, Star Trek, Star Wars, Nic Cage, Once Upon a Time, X-Men, Harry Potter, Disney films, Pixar Films, The Big Bang Theory, Hotel Babylon, Hustle and, of course, Friends!

But I would like to take this opportunity to point out some book fandoms that I am very much a part of. To start with I love books written by L. J. Smith. Although I have not read the Vampire Diaries books, I have read many of her other series including the Night World series, the Forbidden Game and Dark Visions. I’m planning to buy into the Secret Circle series soon too.

I also have half of the Beautiful Creatures series and a few books from the Immortals After Dark series (Although I wouldn’t recommend these for younger readers)

Two other series I’m pretty into are the Blue Bloods series and the Chronicles of Ancient Darkness.

So pick up a good book and delve into an awesome story
